The problem that prompted the intervention

The housing was worn to the point where the bearing could no longer be properly retained. Stripping the equipment down completely and sending it to the workshop would have meant far more downtime than the window allowed.

The sequence applied and the engineering decisions taken

The order below reproduces how the work was actually carried out, including the points where the condition found required a change of scope.

  1. Measurement of the housing on site to quantify the wear and the ovality.
  2. Strategy defined: machine in situ to a regular dimension and compensate with a bush, avoiding stripping the equipment.
  3. Machining rig mounted on the equipment itself, referenced from the working axis.
  4. Housing machined to the defined dimension, with in-process dimensional control.
  5. Compensating bush manufactured in the workshop, with the interference calculated for the fit.
  6. Bush fitted, bearing installed and alignment verified.
