Objective

The problem that prompted the intervention

The pump was running below its rated flow and drawing excessive power, forcing the operation to keep a second unit running in parallel to meet system demand.

  • Strip-down and full inspection
  • Measurement of internal clearances and wear assessment
  • Manufacture of wear rings
  • Recovery of the impeller and shaft
  • Replacement of the mechanical seal and bearings
  • Bench performance testing

Execution

The sequence applied and the engineering decisions taken

The order below reproduces how the work was actually carried out, including the points where the condition found required a change of scope.

  1. Strip-down with the condition found on record and every internal clearance measured.
  2. Wear ring clearance found to be far above the design value — the direct cause of internal recirculation and the loss of efficiency.
  3. New wear rings manufactured in our own machine shop, in a material suited to the fluid being pumped.
  4. Recovery of the impeller and the shaft seat, restoring the design dimensions.
  5. Replacement of the mechanical seal, bearings and seals.
  6. Reassembly with the rotating assembly balanced.
  7. Bench performance test with pressure, flow and vibration recorded.
